Ps Cs3 For Mac
I run a school photo studio with 6 mac minis just paid $$$$ for Adobe CS3 and everything works EXCEPT Photoshop (arguably the most valuable part of this overpriced package). CS2 still works and the Photoshop 10 works on the old G4 I have on my desk, but NOT on the otherwise great Mac Minis. Anyone else having this problem?
All the computers I've tried have 2GB ram, intel processors and 75GB hard drives with plenty of space on them. Any help from a user who has figured out how to get around this problem would be gratefully appreciated. The problem occurs on Photoshop startup. Sometime during loading the program crashes.
All other software is up to date, and I have updated all CS3 software as well. Both the computers I tested on are Mac mini Intel Core Duo 1.83 GHz with 1.25 GB RAM. It seems your Mac mini meets the very minimum requirements.
However, with mis-matached RAM (one 256MB chip and one 1GB chip), the RAM is no longer 'interleaved' and graphics (which shares the main system RAM) will suffer. For most users, this may not even be noticeable, but for an application which requires 64MB of VRAM, you might well notice a problem.
Since Apple doesn't sell that configuration of RAM (for reasons like this), I would contact the Apple Authorized Service Provider that upgraded your RAM and make sure you have two 1GB chips (for a total of 2GB). That would probably help, but you might want contact Adobe support for some more specific help. Adobe even has support forums of their own: -Doug. Yeah, we ordered these preconfigured with 2GBs of RAM, but Apple here in Iceland (terrible service) didn't have the enough RAM so left one of the originals in and added just 1 GB.
I am aware of the problems associated with not installing memory in pairs (which is why we ordered 2 GB in the first place). Still, it seems very strange that every other component in the CS3 package works except Photoshop. And the very minimum requirements? These computers are less than one year old.
They have Intel processors. AND the software will work on older, slower Power PCs with G4 processors. Software that can't work on all Macs operating on the latest operating system simply should not carry the label 'UNIVERSAL'. OK, I've tracked down the problem, and it doesn't seem to be memory related, although I will try to pair all the Mac minis with another 1GB of RAM soon. As stated above, the crash occurs during loading. Last thing I see on the splash screen is 'Building Twain Menu Items' or something similar: goes by too fast to say for sure) then CRASH. I went to the plug-ins folder and deleted the Twain driver/plug in, and now the program launches and seems to work.
I do not yet know how well it will function without a Twain driver, but for now at least I've got it working. Still no response from Adobe so I'm not sure what the conflict is. Other than the standard OS programs, I have only Firefox, Adobe programs (CS2 and CS3) and various scanner software (see below) loaded. The scanner software all works and has not had any conflicts before, but just in cast the list is as follows: -Dimage Scan v1.1.5 (for the Dimage Scan Multi) -Epson Scan v3.01 (for Epson 4870) -Epson Scanner Monitor -VueScan v8.3.73 (for all other scanners) I will do a search on the web to find out if others have had Twain related issues, but hope that this will help others who might be having similar issues. As I am New and don't know how to post a new post, I would like to take the opportunity to mention that I had Tiger on my MacBookPro and CS2 installed some time ago and even if a bit slow it was working fine. Yesterday I have installed Leopard and tried to install CS3 too. Well when I go to the Adobe installation panel Photoshop is not highlighted because it says that there is a conflict with Photoshop CS3 (which Obviously it,t not installed yet. Has anybody got any idea? And how to create a new post, please?

I do not know the solution to your CS3 problem, but to post a new topic. 1) From the top level, 'Discussions', you'll see all the possible forums you can post in. Find the topic relevant to your question, e.g., under 'Mac OS X & Related Software', you may want the 'Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard' forum - click on it to enter that forum.
2) At the top of the forum page, you'll see a series of categories (for the above example, there are currently nine different categories) - select the one that is most applicable to your question, e.g., 'Installation and Setup'. 3) Once you are in the correct category for your forum, you'll see a list of posts in that category, and at the top of the page, you'll see at left a link to 'Post New Topic', as well as 'Subscribe to Forum', etc. Try to post in the most relevant forum and category, as it's your best chance of finding people who will have an answer to your question. I don't think you can land this one on either Adobe or Apple to be honest. I did a clean install of Leopard on my MBP, followed by clean install of Photoshop CS3 without issue. I did an upgrade of Leopard on my Mac Pro, with Photoshop CS3 already installed without issue. CS3 runs fine on both systems under Leopard, I have experienced no problems so far.

The only install I haven't tried is an Archive and Install. I have done those in the past and often had to reinstall third party applications once the OS was installed. Perhaps you should try reinstalling Photoshop CS3 and see if that resolves the problem you are experiencing. Another set of data points: I did an archive and install on my laptop and a clean install on my desktop and CS3 apps work fine on both (I installed CS3 after the system because I was upgrading from CS2). Although it looks like you've already gone the route of reinstalling the system, anyone else with issues could just try reinstalling the Adobe apps. I have to agree with earlier post - it's not up to Apple to make the system backward-compatible with software - where's the progress in that? It's up to developers to update their software to work on the current system (and hardware!) - that's why there's a developer program that distributes pre-release versions of the OS.
