Logitech Twain Drivers For Mac

So Vista has a new way of interfacing with scanners? It seems to be that XP had that too (since it had the whole 'scanners and cameras' interface in the control panel) but also supported TWAIN.

Yeah, (Windows Image Acquisition) was introduced prior to XP (Windows ME supported it too) and Microsoft has been trying to get the IHVs to ever since. I don't know anything about the support in Vista, but the WIA session slides from have a TWAIN slide that says 'Support same as Windows Server 2003 SP1' and there's also a slide laying out all the functional components that shows a TWAIN compatibility layer 'unchanged in Windows Vista.' So it should still be possible to use TWAIN drivers, though you may have to jump through some hoops with the compatibility mode as jinjuku suggests.

Yep, my research led me to that very same.PPT. The.NET framework has no native TWAIN support. Logitech may be confusing.Net lack of support to Vista OS. I doubt Logitech is writing in any.NET language.

So Logitech has been IMO a bit premature to remove TWAIN support. So my hurdle that I had to clear with Logitech was one of their making by yanking TWAIN.

I completely understand the why of the WIA framework. But TWAIN needs to be treated like other 'legacy' stuff and have a base level of support for good bit longer. I completely understand the why of the WIA framework.

But TWAIN needs to be treated like other 'legacy' stuff and have a base level of support for good bit longer. It's been 6 years.

And if you have legacy hardware older than that, then you can stick with a legacy OS like XP. Helloooo., I have stuff (quickcam 5k) that I bought last week that isn't going to work without some effort! So you missed the entire point of the conversation. We aren't neccessarily talking about legacy equipment at all. I mean Creative Labs cameras (the ones that have Vista drivers) support TWAIN under Vista. TWAIN was brought about because OS manufacturers didn't have common framework for letting apps have at imaging devices. The droping of TWAIN is a decision by the manufacturer.

MS is perfectly happy letting you go on to use TWAIN with Vista. I know they 'prefer' WIA.

I know they 'prefer' WIA. Then wouldn't a more approriate title for this thread be: 'Logitech developer's suck in their support for Vista'? I completely understand the why of the WIA framework. TWAIN is also used for testing (and getting better colour scans) on mid to highend scanners e.g. Ricoh IS760D $5k US. Thankfully everyone uses ISIS for real work. Hopefully this is just a driver thing and not a dropping of the TWAIN interface. Then wouldn't a more approriate title for this thread be: 'Logitech developer's suck in their support for Vista'?

No, not really. The thread overall is quite informative for anyone that may be experiencing a glitch with hardware that otherwise worked under XP/TWAIN. Logitech just happened to make themselves a good example.

Squeezee has the gist of it. Again, IMO, Logitech made a poor decision when it came to dropping TWAIN. It isn't like they haven't supported it and coded for it the last 10 years.

Acting like TWAIN is some gi-normus undertaking after using it all these years just seems flat out strange. If it said 'TWAIN support in Vista' or 'Problems with TWAIN support in Vista' or even 'Logitech, etc, not supporting TWAIN in Vista' it would be more accurate. I have no problem with changing the name of the thread.

I even questioned whether what Logitech was telling me was true or not. And the thread did what it was meant to do: Get at the heart of the matter. To whomever: please change the thread topic to 'Logitech drops TWAIN support in latest drivers for some, maybe all products'.
